SCAI is now sitting again to hear evidence in public session from Tuesday 10 September 2019. Between 10 September and 5 November 2019, SCAI plans to conclude hearing evidence and submissions for its Phase 4 case studies on residential care establishments run by male religious orders.
Over the last few weeks we have provided updates on the publication of the IICSA’s first two investigation reports – Rochdale and Child Migration. This week the IICSA published their Interim Report (“the Report”) as required by their Terms of Reference. The Report brings together the IICSA’s work to date following the five public hearings held, two investigation reports and a series of seminars discussing issues relevant to child sexual abuse. On 1 March 2018 the IICSA published their first report following their case study into the Child Migration Programmes forming part of their investigation into Children Outside the UK. This report was awaited with interest not just because of its content but also because it is the first IICSA report and so its format and intent indicate the likely approach for other reports. As progress is made in individual investigations, IICSA has confirmed dates for four further preliminary hearings.
Details of the dates and investigations are as follows:
- 9 May 2017 – Child Migration Programme case study (part of the Children Outside the UK Investigation);
- 10 May 2017 – Cambridge House, Knowl View and Rochdale;
- 11 May 2017 – Children in the care of Nottinghamshire Councils and
- 6 June 2017 – Benedictine case study (part of the Roman Catholic Church Investigation).
The preliminary hearings will not be broadcast but they are open to the press and public. The hearings will be held at the International Dispute Resolution Centre on Fleet Street.
