Spotlight on New York

A Roman Catholic bishop appointed by the Pope to investigate allegations of sexual abuse in Buffalo, New York, has himself been accused of sexual abuse. Whilst the bishop denies the allegations a $20 million lawsuit is being prepared against Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio relating to allegations from the mid-1970s, when he was then a parish priest in Jersey City.

The Bishop‘s response to the Associated Press was “In my nearly 50-year ministry as a priest, I have never engaged in unlawful or inappropriate behavior and I emphatically deny this allegation. I am confident I will be fully vindicated.”
